Rustom Review by Film Maker Vinay Gupta

After delivering the path-breaking A Wednesday, Special 26 and Baby, filmmaker Neeraj Pandey is back after a long hiatus with ‘Rustom’. Smartly fictionalized, this courtroom drama is essentially based on the real life of Naval officer K M Nanavati, who in 1959, shot and killed his wife’s lover.

The subsequent trial was one of India’s most sensational court cases. By large, the movie offers plenty of fun, drama and the interest levels rarely dip. Well created twist thrown into the climax, an heroic move by the protagonist.

We get to see Akshay Kumar in a totally new avatar yet again, which is free from his usual antics and amused character. The hunk carries impressive screen presence but his stylish clothes and accessories don’t gel with the 1959 setting of the movie.

But the director has taken care of the period setting in all the other aspects like the vehicles, accessories and home decor used in the movie.

There is also a vintage looks in the movie to portray the dated era. The sets created in few scenes are to showcase key landmarks in the chosen cities which became the USP to create an era of time narrated.

My Verdict:  Rustom is a well-written, well-made thriller of a flash back era introduced to entertain and inspire the vision for an honesty to our country.
