Best Movies of This Era Those Ignored by Audience: Vinay Gupta

In India we often judge films by star-cast but seldom on story and direction. But there are set of films which took a brilliant ride of storytelling which will really make you feel “Wah Kya Baat Hai”. I hereby collated few of the films which were the gems and masterpieces for the industry but people simply ignored them. Let’s take a ride to their journey and why they deserve to be watchable.

1. 3 Deewarein

Film undoubtedly belongs to Director Nagesh Kukunoor realistically and without compromise. Story of 3 murders imprisoned – played by Naseeruddin ShahJackie Shroff and Nagesh Kukunoor himself. It’s an intense movie with no songs and no hoopla. Worth spending your 2 hours.

2. Khoya Khoya Chand

Film does its best to teleport you to the golden era of Bollywood, among those sharp archaic lights, melodramatic sets, divas and classic vintage vehicles. Sudhir Mishra’s gem with Soha Ali Khan and Shiney Ahuja. This is a reflection of Bollywood on Bollywood. A sincere effort and we really need such more films in our bucket list.

3. Shanghai

Dibakar Banerjee beautifully crafted this Political thriller. Leading characters Abhay DeolEmraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin dealing with social issues like urbanization, corruption, development and politics in India.

4. Tahaan

An innocent fairy tale of a Kashmiri Child by Director Santosh Sivan collating the fictitious characters into real incidents of disappearance of people in Kashmir. The journey of that child with his donkey is all about the film supported by Anupam Kher and Sarika.

5. Raincoat

Story of a middle class guy who is hesitant, depressed and humiliated by society. This film shows the series of wonderful moments and tend to go overboard.  Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai beautifully portrayed their characters from small town and made this film a simply wow to watch.

6. Haasil

It’s particularly the film not for everyone because you need a sense of seriousness to create your mindset for this film. ‘s not the regular eye-candy to watch. around the dirty politics of country involving the major part of student politics. Crafted by Tigmanshu Dhulia and performed by few of the finest actors of industry – Irfan KhanJimmy ShergillAshutosh Rana and Hrishtia Bhatt.

7. Ek Doctor Ki Maut

Delightful little masterpiece of Pankaj Kapur and Shabana Azmi by Vidhu Vinod Chopra at his best. The film narrates the story of venomous corrupt story of medical intelligence. Buckle up if you really appreciate the good cinema.

8. Mumbai Meri Jaan

An ode to the song penned and sung by Mohammad Rafi, a tribute to the city never sleeps. Film is about the soul stirring spirits of life after the Mumbai Blasts. Beautifully directed by Nishikant Kamat and stellar performances by Paresh RawalIrrfan Khan and R Madhvan. Don’t miss this emotional saga.

9. Khosla ka Ghosla

This is how a comedy film should be made. Comedy can’t get better than this. It’s a very rare piece of humor that will swing you with not only punchlines but the story which every middle class family can relate to. This is for sure a comedy epic – one for all. Simple and straightforward film.
