The second part of the record breaking Baahubali plays more as a prequel than a sequel as the script depicts the origin of Baahubali’s father, who was actually supposed to be the Ruler of Mahishmati. The plot is simple and is set in the age old narrative of good’s triumph over evil. The movie thrills though it is a tad lengthy.
This production is full of visual delights that are sure to excite and delight the audience. The CGI and VFX create so engrossing a universe that leaves you in constant awe and stupefaction, that make you grab your seat in wonder.
Baahubali 2 also sends you on an emotional roller coaster.
Prabhas gives a marvelous performance as both the father and son and excels throughout the length of the film, but more on that later.
For the past two years, ever since the first movie came out, only one question has reigned in moviegoer’s heads: why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? Well, the answer has finally been answered but is one you will have to go to a theatre to know more about.
The second half of the film is a bit slower in its cinematic development. The only issue here is that the first movie set such high standards that the same doesn’t feel as new and revelatory as it first time. It is definitely bigger, on a whole new level, unseen for Indian audiences.
The background score is mesmerizing, flowing into the ears and delighting always though it does get ear splitting at a couple of occasions.
M.M. Kreem’s masterful background score coupled with the utilization of the right song at the right moment is another of the biggest reasons that makes the sequel so wonderfully watchable.
Daggubati and Shetty both excite with their dashing, brawny look and drip oodles of charisma on the silver. Both men bare their impressive bodies for a typical scene depicting hand-to-hand combat, to show off their perfectly sculpted and rippling, muscular torsos.
The rest of the cast supports excellently. The grand and rather ostentatious stage on which the movie is set is impressive as ever, dwarfing all else before it and setting the stage for a final, heavyweight showdown of the titans.
My Verdict: The sequel matches the glory and grandeur of the first part, with the main characters in excellent form.
